The Friendship Center:  Development Director (part-time)

The Friendship Center of Helena is seeking a mission-minded, visionary Development Director to join our dedicated team.  The Friendship Center (TFC) serves survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

General Schedule:  This is an hourly, part-time, 20 hour/week position.  More hours may be required near grants deadlines or during major fundraising activities.

Salary (depending on experience and qualifications):  $19-$23/hour plus benefits.  Part-time employees working at least 20 hours per week are eligible for benefits on a pro-rated basis.  While this position is currently funded at 20 hours/week, the potential exists to transition this position to full-time.

Summary/Objective:  The Development Director will serve in a leadership role responsible for guiding all aspects of the organization’s fundraising and development, in partnership with the Executive Director.  This includes implementing TFC’s diverse fundraising efforts, including grant writing, individual and major gifts, planned giving, and corporate donations.  The Development Director is responsible for developing a plan to engage donors in new and creative ways, as well as working with the Executive Director to think more broadly about how we can promote our organizational work to a broader public.  The ideal candidate is creative, open to new ideas, enjoys fundraising and working with others but is also self-directed and motivated.

  • Identify new and creative ways to connect with donors across our community and beyond, including through email and social media.
  • Manage grant proposals, grant timelines, and grant reports in conjunction with Executive Director and Accounting Manager.
  • Measure, track and report on all fundraising activities and contributions
  • Ensure all back office operations, including donation processing, reports and recordkeeping, function smoothly.
  • Work with Executive Director to identify and engage major donors
  • Create, write, produce and distribute e-newsletters, print newsletters, and major donor prospectus, informational brochures, fundraising letters, etc.
  • Aid with fundraising and donor cultivation events, including Friendship Friday luncheons, our October fundraising luncheon, and other events.
  • Oversee, write and manage all social media and web content

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required:

  • Two years relevant work experience, with demonstrated success in fundraising, including securing major gifts and grants through written proposals.
  • Ability to research, track, assemble and submit grants according to funder requirements
  • Familiarity with social media and online communication (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Email-based fundraising, understanding of data analytics, etc.)
  • Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Competence with office software and database platforms such as Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and donor databases.
  • Proven organizational skills, attention-to-detail, and project management with self-discipline to follow up and follow through
  • High energy, confident, with professional demeanor
  • Existing relationships with Montana donor community would be a definite plus

Special Work Requirements:

  • Prior to employment, you will be required to pass a background check

Minimum Qualifications: Education: 4-year degree (BA/BS) and a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a position with related duties.  Excellent communication skills, both verbally and written.  Excellent interpersonal skills. Must be detail-oriented, highly organized, and efficiently manage time.

The Friendship Center:  Direct Services Advocate (Full-Time)

TITLE:                                    Direct Services Advocate

DATE:                                    January 2019

POSITION SUMMARY:         Provide crisis intervention and advocacy to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or stalking.

SUPERVISOR:                      Client Care Director

SPECIFIC DUTIES/MAJOR TASKS:

  1. Provide initial crisis response to clients who contact the agency by phone, walk-in or by other methods during regular business hours.
  2. Provide crisis intervention and empowerment-based, trauma-informed advocacy to clients seeking emergency services:
    1. Conduct intakes and staff clients’ cases with social work team as necessary;
    2. Provide information and education to help clients understand the dynamics of domestic violence
    3. Work with supervisor to provide emergency crisis counseling, financial and material assistance, and other necessary services to clients seeking emergency assistance;
    4. Assess clients’ safety and formulate safety plans using knowledge of local resources for DV, SA, and stalking to make referrals, as appropriate
    5. Assist clients in securing safe shelter, and permanent housing;
    6. Report all suspected incidents of child abuse/neglect to CPS, and suspected incidents of adult exploitation and/or abuse to APS.
    7. Provide information and referrals to community service providers.
    8. Assist client in making relocation plans when necessary.
  3. Document all services provided, maintaining accurate and detailed records and work logs. Utilize web-based case management data base to document client enrollment and services received.
  4. Cover the 24-hour crisis line on some weekends and evenings as necessary and serve as staff back-up for crisis line volunteer advocates on rotating evenings and weekends.
  5. Serve as a liaison between Friendship Center and law enforcement agencies and facilitate crime interviews/reports with law enforcement representatives.
  6. Make daily contact with victims of crime using data provided by law enforcement personnel and maintain records of crime victim contacts.
  7. Be present with a client while they are receiving medical attention and/or forensic exam for injuries as a result of a crime.
  8. Be present with clients in court hearings, CPS meetings, etc.
  9. Attend specialized trainings as needed.
  10. Provide Order of Protection assistance to our clients, as needed
  11. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned (may include but are not limited to: grant writing, program development/implementation, volunteer coordination, database management, group classes, website updating, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. BA or BS Degree in human services, psychology, social work, women’s studies, or other related fields
  2. Training and/or experience in the dynamics of domestic and sexual violence is strongly preferred.
  3. Ability to problem-solve, manage time and work independently under pressure
  4. Ability to function as an effective member of a professional team
  5. Positive attitude and professional demeanor and image
  6. Ability to set personal and professional boundaries
  7. Ability to completely understand and maintain strict adherence to confidentiality, safety procedures, and advocate privilege
  8. Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to listen well
  9. Ability to balance emotional and physical needs with work demand through personal and effective forms of self-care
  10. Ability to work with a wide variety of ethnic, racial, socioeconomic, and religious individuals and/or groups.
  11. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with other community-based services and systems professionals.
  12. Demonstrate a willingness to improve professional skills through training.
  13. Ability to set goals and complete projects in a timely manner.
  14. Ability to work both independently and in small team settings. Comfortable taking initiative but also committed to sharing information and working well in a team.
